Reading as affection

Abstract

In the work The Reverse Side of the Skin (2020), a novel written by Jeferson Tenório, affections assume the central role in dealing with racism. In the plots of these affections, the encounter between text and reader allows us to immerse ourselves in a space where the skin has no color. From this place based on the imaginative knowledge of fiction, we seek to reflect on how the reading scenes presented in the work produce affections from the encounter between text and reader, to understand how these affections seem to emerge from this relationship. The result points to a way of reading in which affecting oneself with the affection of the other, through literary reading, opens the possibility of expanding human experiences.
