Material representation of violence against black women from evaristian writing

Abstract

This article is the result of my doctoral research in Materialities of Literature and aims to analyze the short stories Maria and Lia Gabriel, published in the books Olhos d’água and Insubmissas lágrimas de mulheres, by the writer Conceição Evaristo (2016, 2016a), with the aim of pointing out discursive strategies used by her to denote the material representation of violence (of gender, race and class) suffered by black Brazilian women. I adopted bibliographic research as a methodology because it is an initial method. In the development of an investigative study, after choosing the theme, it is necessary to carry out bibliographic collection about it, considering that this leads to knowing whether the proposed questions have already been published in other similar research and which theorists are most relevant academically to support the subject under study. The work is relevant to the extent that it promotes the expansion of cultural knowledge offered by Evaristian literature, thus contributing to showing the world the harsh reality experienced by millions of black women in Brazil and, at the same time, raising awareness among readers of the government's negligence in this situation. To support this work, I used the ideas of scholars such as Kimberlé Crenshaw, Judith Butler, Eni Orlandi, Sonia Giacomini, among others
