Abstract
This work aims to problematize the representation of violence against women in contemporary literature, through the analysis of the short stories "Os Olhos Negros de Vivalma", by the Mozambican writer Mia Couto, and "A Cabeleireira", by the Portuguese writer Inês Pedrosa. It is intended to compare, from the perspective of gender studies, in both female and male authorship, the representation of the "battered woman"and their positioning in the face of domestic violence situations in the narratives in question.
