Abstract
The poetic work of the Marchioness of Alorna was indeed recognized by her contemporaries in manuscript form since only after her death her complete poetic work comes to light, due to the responsability of her two daughters. This poetry is markedly coated, amond other things, with a disquieting tone that culminates in the lines that refer, many times, the lexeme "melancholy". However, for the writer, that expression is coated with various facets.
Our proposal is to analyze the poetical understanding of melancholy in her work, reccurring to the critics that thought about this concept in order to try to perceive the dynamics that this word generates in her poetic work.
